Repost of Dr. Don Colbert on Weight Loss





Good Morning Team!

I just listened to a program by Dr. Don Colbert this am that brilliantly confirms & validates our MonaVie RVL message of weight loss and management.  Dr. Colbert is an expert in the field of health, nutrition and weight loss.  He is a board certified medical and anti-aging physician and has written many books on this subject. His new book is called
I Can Do This Diet.  He also brings an important emotional factor into the equation of weight management that I believe will help us all.  He addressed why we have an obesity problem in the US and how many people are successfully losing & maintaining their weight. 

He says that people who succeed in weight loss have certain habits:
1) They eat a balanced breakfast…not a quick coffee and pop tart.  They eat a well balanced breakfast with the right
     Fuel mixture.  RVL is the right fuel…it has more nutrition/calorie than anything on the market  today…in 8 oz. you get
     10 servings of fruit and veggies, 12 g. of fiber and 18 g. of protein.  This is the RIGHT FUEL for your day!
2) They exercised 5 times a week.  The exercise of choice for most people is walking.
3)  They modified their food intake by decreasing sugar, lowering fat intake, decreased portion sizes and decreased
      the processed foods they ate.  They ate more “whole” foods. 
4) They weighed themselves on a regular basis.  Once their goal weight was reached they weighed every day.
5) They removed irresistible foods from their house to control “temptations.”
6) They had someone they were accountable to.

Dr. Colbert says you also have to address the emotional factor in weight loss and management.  Most people who have an issue with their weight have the wrong mentality…they have a weight gain mentality.  You have to reverse this weight gain mentality by reprogramming the mind with positive affirmations.  He teaches his patients to apply faith to their lives.  He teaches them to start speaking their goal weight and to start with a reasonable goal weight.  He says to start with your waist.  This is the most important measurement.  For a male you want it less than 40 inches and for a woman less than 35 inches.  Post a photo of yourself at a good weight and post in on your bathroom mirror or your frig and speak this everyday…”By faith I weigh ____.”  Don’t say I’m going to lose 50 lbs or 100 lbs…whatever amount you want to lose…this is wrong thinking.  By speaking the right words faith enables you to move forward to that right weight.  This is why Brig always teaches you to say…”I AM a Black Diamond.”  The Bible clearly tells us in scripture to “call those things that be not as though they are.”  By speaking it you are correcting your neurotransmitters.  You’re able to reprogram your body and it starts burning fat.  The Bible is very clear about our mouth and how important it is to use uplifting words.  This applies to EVERY facet of our lives…YES…losing weight too!!!

What is the greatest obstacle to losing weight?  Stinking’ thinking’!!!  Wrong thinking is the root to most all of our problems…physical & mental! Most people with weight issues have a “weight gain mentality”…they have programmed themselves to gain weight.  Once you start reprogramming your brain with positive affirmation (confessing it out loud), by speaking your goal weight, visualizing yourself at a healthy weight, your body starts responding by burning fat!
Every am you should get up and say…”I forgive you, I accept you and I love you”!  Most people simply don’t like themselves and have not forgiven themselves.  You must change this…God accepts you and He loves you!  Once you start loving yourself you will find your whole world changes!
The only difference between a failure and a winner is that the winner gets up one more time!

What is the difference between “hunger” and “appetite”?  
Hunger is the physiologic need for food.  Blood sugar goes down and the body is triggered to crave food.  This is why it’s important to eat every 3 ½ hours…to turn hunger off.  This is why we suggest you eat the MonaVie snack bars in between meals…they are power packed with nutrition…over 24 different vitamin and minerals & they taste great!
Appetite is a desire that satisfies a craving.  It’s almost always tied to an emotion.  When you’re lonely, stressed out, feeling guilty or depressed you tend to eat emotionally.  You eat to fill a craving you have.  To avoid this we must correct the neurotransmitters in your brain.

There are 3 main Brain Chemistry NEUROTRANSMITTERS:
(these are brain chemicals that make us feel good.)
1)   Serotonin.  Women make 50% less serotonin than men.  They crave more sugar, chocolate and more carbohydrates than men.  When women are craving these things they are almost always low in serotonin.  We should use natural amino acids without side affects to raise these serotonin levels.  Most Dr’s will put them on Prozac, SSRI’s that literally trigger appetite and cause weight gain.  With RVL you are getting a synergistic balance of micro, macro and phytonutrients that your body and brain need to stay in balance.  Balance is the key to a healthy life!
2)   Nor epinephrine.  When this is low, your appetite is unleashed!  Often people with low nor epinephrine levels have ADHD, ADD, depression, chronic fatigue.  When we correct these levels with natural means such as amino acids, green tea we can turn the appetite down or sometimes turn it off.
3)   Dopamine.  A chemical associated with addictive behaviors.  When dopamine levels are low people are drawn to such things as cigarettes, alcohol, sexual and food addictions.  When we supply natural amino acids that raise dopamine levels we turn off these emotional triggers and turn off the appetite.  We can find these amino acids in whole foods…plant based foods.  God designed our bodies to eat from the earth. He provided everything our bodies and brains needed to fully function and thrive.  This is WHY MonaVie has made such an impact with so many nutrient deprived people.

Should we be eating FREE RANGE meats?
YES!!!  You want to eat grass fed beef. Grass fed beef is beef in which the cattle are NOT fed corn.
  99% of ranchers feed their cattle corn to fatten them up.  Corn creates
animal fat which is marbled.  It contains a lot more inflammatory Omega 6 fatty acids than healthy anti-inflammatory Omega 3 fatty acids.  Most disease we see today in America are inflammatory diseases brought on by eating the wrong foods, especially a lot of corn fed beef.  If you eat more than 18 oz. of red meat/wk you
increase your chances, as a man, of prostate cancer.  When you eat corn fed beef you’re eating “inflammatory meat.” Diseases associated with inflammation are many.  The #1 is Heart Disease and High Blood Pressure.
Most heart diseases are due to inflammation in the arteries that causes plaque to build up. 
Did you know that Alzheimer’s is an inflammatory disease of the brain?  A lot of physicians say it’s the BRAIN ON FIRE because of inflammatory mediators. 
Arthritis is an inflammatory disease.  People with arthritis should stay away from corn fed beef!  Eat grass fed beef instead!  These inflammatory diseases are made worse as we age by eating the wrong things such as corn fed beef.

Stay away from Soda…especially DIET SODA!  Diet Sodas make you FAT!!!  (more so than regular sodas!)
Diet Sodas are loaded with Artificial Sweeteners that are 2000x sweeter than regular sugar.  Our bodies get used that super sweetness and we crave it.  When we’re exposed to these super sweeteners our pancreas secretes insulin and when our insulin goes up it programs our bodies to store fat. So by sipping on diet sodas all day people are getting high insulin levels and their getting fat.  They think they will lose weight by lowering their caloric intake but they are causing their body to go into “fat storage mode.”

What Beverages cause you to lose weight?
Water and teas (not sweet tea).  You should sweeten with stevia. (in our Emv lite).  Squeeze a fresh lemon or lime into your water…helps it to become alkaline.  All of MonaVie produces are conducive to losing weight.  They are all loaded with fiber which keeps your glycemic index low.  RVL has 12 g. of fiber in only 8 oz…this is unheard of today!  Most weight loss products on the market are loaded with macronutrients…but no micronutrients or phytonutrients!  We also have the groundbreaking OLIGONAL, a component in our RVL, which has shown a 12 percent drop in abdominal fat in only 10 wks!
